Fenaka Corporation Limited has begun restoring water supply across Fuvahmulah City, following confirmation from the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) that the water network was free from contamination, which had caused disruptions earlier in the week.
Speaking to State media, Managing Director Mohamed Najah said the restoration process is being carried out in phases, with water now released to areas where no technical issues have been identified. He noted that supply to all households is expected to be completed by noon today, adding that minor leakage issues are being fixed concurrently. MD Najah also stated that Fenaka is assisting households with connection-related problems to ensure smooth distribution across the city.
Water services in Fuvahmulah were suspended on Monday after impurities were detected in the network, prompting an inter-agency response led by Fenaka Corporation, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), the Health Protection Agency (HPA), and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). During the suspension, MNDF transported bottled water by sea and air, distributing thousands of litres to residents.
The network was subsequently disinfected and flushed in accordance with safety guidelines before resuming operations. Fenaka has assured that the issue has been fully rectified, and that the corporation will continue to monitor water quality to maintain uninterrupted and safe supply across Fuvahmulah City.
