Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has said that the nationwide anti-narcotics campaign, Operation Alimagu, will continue until drug trafficking is eradicated from the Maldives.

Speaking to State Media, Minister Ihusaan confirmed that the large-scale operation launched on the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is being carried out across all atolls based on intelligence gathered by the Maldives Police Service over the past six months. He revealed that 90 individuals involved in drug trafficking have been arrested so far, and over 100 locations used for drug storage have been searched as part of the crackdown.

The Minister warned that no leniency will be shown to those involved in the drug trade, stressing that law enforcement will continue its efforts around the clock until the issue is completely resolved. He said that there will no longer be space for narcotics activities in the country and emphasised the need to protect young people from addiction and criminal networks.

Operation Alimagu, which began at 5:30 a.m. on 13 November, involves over 500 police officers from specialised units nationwide. The operation is one of the largest anti-drug initiatives in recent years and forms part of the Government’s commitment to establishing a drug-free Maldives through strengthened law enforcement and rehabilitation efforts.
