Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has commended the courage and dedication of Maldives Police Service (MPS) personnel, highlighting their readiness to face evolving challenges and serve with professionalism.

He made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the new Police Station in Raa Innamaadhoo, signifying the completion of the Government’s initiative to establish police services in all inhabited islands of the Maldives.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner Naveen said the responsibility of the police extends beyond enforcing the law, encompassing the vital role of building trust and cooperation within communities. He said the Maldives Police Service is trained and prepared to serve a civilised society, with officers equipped to overcome challenges and adapt to modern changes. He described the night as a historic milestone in the nation’s policing journey.

The Commissioner noted that it has been 21 years since the Maldives Police Service became a separate institution in 2004 and expressed gratitude to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for his leadership in strengthening the service and ensuring the resources required to enhance public safety. He also thanked Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, retired officers, and partner institutions including MTCC and Innamaadhoo Island Council for their contributions.

During the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan inaugurated the new Innamaadhoo Police Station and launched a book documenting the establishment of police services across all inhabited islands. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to 13 officers who played a key role in the initiative, underscoring the continued commitment to expanding law enforcement accessibility and community policing nationwide.
