Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed has highlighted the pivotal role of the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) in upholding the quality, integrity, and credibility of higher education institutions across the country. He made the remarks at the ceremony held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of MQA.

Speaking at the event, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed noted that MQA has been instrumental in shaping the nation’s higher education landscape over the past quarter-century. He emphasised the authority’s key contributions, including the formulation of the National Qualifications Framework, accreditation of academic programmes, and regular institutional audits that has ensured consistent quality standards and enhanced the international recognition of Maldivian higher education.

The minister stated that MQA’s efforts have delivered significant benefits for national development, particularly by encouraging institutions to produce graduates who are innovative, skilled, and prepared for the demands of the modern labour market. He added that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration continues to give strong priority to strengthening the higher education system and supporting institutions to meet evolving national needs.

During the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were presented to individuals who have contributed to MQA’s progress over the years. The Maldives Qualifications Authority was first established on 14 August 2000 and later restructured under the Maldives Accreditation Board in 2010 before adopting its current mandate.
