President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that households will be charged a maximum of MVR 400 for electricity bills during Ramadan, as part of Government support measures.
The announcement was made at a large rally organised by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) at Malé’s Artificial Beach, which was attended by thousands of supporters.
The Government will provide similar assistance to last year, including the distribution of a case containing 48 tins of fish to each household, alongside substantial electricity bill discounts, the President noted. These initiatives are aimed at easing the financial burden on citizens during the holy month.
President Dr Muizzu also urged the public to support Government policies, emphasising that the upcoming local council elections should not impede the Administration’s ongoing development projects. He highlighted the importance of electing councils that would work collaboratively with the Government to implement its policies effectively.
Reflecting on his tenure, President Dr Muizzu noted that his Administration has prioritised fulfilling pledges made during the presidential campaign, with a focus on stability, development, and security. Considerable progress has already been achieved across these three areas.
