President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that his Administration is working to deliver on every pledge made during the presidential election, emphasising three core priorities: stability, development and security.
Speaking at the ‘Dhiveheenge Raajje’ mega rally held at Artificial Beach on Friday night, the President said he began fulfilling his commitments from the first day in office, guided by the oath he took on 17 November 2023.
Highlighting his governance approach, the President said his Administration is serving the nation with sincerity and integrity, and that many of his key electoral pledges have now translated into ongoing programmes and reforms. He reiterated that Maldives is an Islamic nation and that strengthening Islamic values remains a central pillar of his policy agenda. In this regard, he noted ongoing projects including mosque construction, Waqf buildings, Quran centres and the establishment of Zakat Houses across the nation.
Addressing foreign policy, President Dr Muizzu said he drew a firm line upon assuming office to safeguard national independence, and reaffirmed that the Maldives would maintain close relations with all countries except Israel. He said the decision to ban Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives was taken in line with the will of the Maldivian people and the country’s democratic values. He added that defence capabilities are being strengthened to ensure long-term national security, stating that further progress will be visible in the coming months.
On political freedoms, the President said his Administration has upheld the right to peaceful political activity and noted that no political leaders have been arrested since he took office. He noted that, unlike in previous administrations, his government has ensured that State decisions remain free from political retaliation. He reiterated that the PNC-led Government prioritises national interest above party interest.
The President also underscored judicial independence as a cornerstone of stability. He highlighted that the 2026 national budget includes a separate allocation for judicial administration for the first time, describing it as a historic step in ensuring a free, autonomous judiciary. He stressed that the courts no longer require permission from another ministry to carry out their constitutional responsibilities and urged judges to safeguard the integrity of the justice system.
