President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that true development can only be achieved through equality.
He made the remarks at the People’s National Congress (PNC)’s “Dhiveheenge Raajje” rally held tonight.
The President said that during his island tours he has visited islands that had not been visited by a president in many years, describing them as long-neglected. He said that in his view, the residents of those islands and the residents of Malé are equal, which is why the Administration has been working to introduce essential services such as ATMs and other facilities across the country.
He noted that every inhabited island in the Maldives now has police services, and that ID card and passport services are available in every atoll. The President added that an additional 70 islands will receive US dollar ATM machines before March next year. These will be installed on islands with more than 150 tourist beds, atoll capitals, and islands with populations above 2,000 residents.
Highlighting the Government’s commitment to equitable development, President Dr Muizzu said the 2026 State Budget includes plans to establish children’s parks and fitness and recreation centres in every inhabited island. He said this reflects the policy that all residents are equal and entitled to the same facilities.
The President also stated that 1,875 development projects are currently underway nationwide, of which 1,350 were initiated by his Administration.
