President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held an important meeting with the fishing community at the President’s Office this morning.

The session provided a platform for fishermen to voice their concerns and discuss challenges facing the industry, as well as to offer suggestions for its advancement.

A range of issues were brought to the forefront during the discussions, with key concerns including the low prices of fish, difficulties in obtaining fuel and financing, and challenges in offloading fish. The fishing community also expressed a desire for continued efforts to develop the sector in line with the President’s earlier pledges.

In addition to highlighting their concerns, the fishermen shared a number of ideas aimed at modernising the industry. They proposed the introduction of new technologies to enhance the efficiency of fishing operations, increase the quality of fish, and expand market access. These discussions underscored the potential for innovation and growth within the sector.

President Dr Muizzu responded positively to the concerns raised, assuring the fishermen that the Government would take prompt and effective action to address these issues. He affirmed that the challenges discussed would be taken into serious consideration and would be prioritised in the Government’s efforts to support the fishing community.

Furthermore, the President highlighted holding more frequent meetings with the fishing community in the future, to ensure ongoing dialogue and collaboration on the development of the industry.
