Commissioner General of Customs Fathimath Dhiyana has highlighted vigilance, professionalism and cooperation as central to protecting society, in a message issued to celebrate International Customs Day 2026.

In her message, the Commissioner General expressed appreciation to officers of Maldives Customs Service, along with partners, stakeholders and customs administrations worldwide, for their continued dedication, professionalism and collaboration.

The Commissioner General noted that Maldives Customs Service, as a member of the World Customs Organization (WCO), works closely with fellow member administrations and international counterparts. She emphasised the importance of cooperation, information sharing and mutual assistance in addressing emerging risks, countering illicit activities and upholding international customs standards.

She also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen vigilance, enhance operational readiness, build institutional capacity and deepen partnerships at both national and international levels. In this regard, she referred to the Maldives Customs Service Strategic Plan 2025–2029, which outlines clear and measurable milestones to advance these priorities.

Commending customs officers for their integrity and resilience, the Commissioner General thanked stakeholders for their continued trust, collaboration and support, and expressed confidence that collective efforts would contribute to a modern, resilient and trusted customs administration.

International Customs Day was established by the World Customs Organization to recognise the role of customs administrations in border security, trade facilitation and economic development.

International Customs Day, observed annually on 26 January, is celebrated this year under the theme “Customs Protecting Society through Vigilance and Commitment”. The theme underscores the responsibility of customs administrations in safeguarding communities, securing national interests and maintaining the integrity of borders, while facilitating legitimate trade and travel.
