First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has commemorated World Children’s Day with a call for renewed national commitment to protecting and uplifting every child, emphasising that children’s voices must be heard and their rights safeguarded.

In a message shared on her official X account on Thursday, the First Lady highlighted that children in the Maldives and across the world demonstrate resilience, creativity and courage every day, and stressed that society has a responsibility to ensure their safety, wellbeing and opportunity to thrive.

She underscored the need to create an environment where children's rights are protected and their voices valued, urging communities to listen with intention and act with compassion. She added that ensuring joy, opportunity and security for every child requires sustained and collective effort from all sectors of society.

World Children’s Day is observed globally on 20 November to commemorate the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. The day serves as a reminder of the universal rights owed to every child, including protection from harm, access to education, healthcare, and the freedom to express their views.
