President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the Government’s Youth Third Space, “Youth Hub”, located on Lily Magu in the building formerly used as the Muliaage vehicle garage.
The President was accompanied by First Lady Sajida Mohamed, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ibrahim Waheed, and several Ministers of State. Following the inauguration, President Dr Muizzu toured the venue and inspected the stalls and activities set up for the opening.
The decision to establish the Youth Third Space was announced on 18 November 2024 as part of the President’s proposal to transform the garage into a community-friendly facility. The initiative aims to address the lack of dedicated spaces for youth-focused activities in Malé City.
According to the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, the Youth Hub is designed to host a wide range of programmes aimed at empowering young people and enhancing their skills. Services to be provided under one roof include youth counselling, wellbeing support, recreational activities, and various development programmes to promote both physical and mental wellbeing.
Proposed activities at the venue include boot camps, skill-exchange programmes, virtual-reality training, community art walls, interactive community hubs, workshops, and culinary events. A section of the facility has also been designated to support mental health-related services.
The Youth Hub will operate as a multipurpose space to equip young people with skills, opportunities, and a supportive environment to thrive.
