President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has initiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Darul Salaam Waqf Building in Hulhumalé.
The event, held at Plot No. 11646, was attended by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, along with other ministers and senior Government officials.
The 12-storey building will be developed by Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) on a 20,000-square-foot plot at a cost of MVR 244.5 million. The project is expected to be completed within two years.
Darul Salaam marks the second major Waqf building initiative in the Maldives. Practical works began on the first project, Darul Arqam, on 20 November 2025.
The Government has also announced plans to develop similar Waqf buildings in Kulhudhuffushi City, Fuvahmulah City, Addu City, and Thinadhoo City as part of efforts to secure sustainable funding for various Islamic initiatives.
