Malé Vocational High School has officially opened, offering students a dedicated pathway to pursue higher secondary education through vocational studies.
The school was inaugurated by Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu. Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister described the opening as an important step toward building a skilled generation, providing new opportunities for students who have struggled to find a way forward after completing their O-levels.
The first batch of 60 students has now enrolled. Minister Dr Shafeeu said the Government aims to expand the vocational pathway to accommodate up to 500 students in the coming years. He noted that the Government is investing heavily in the education sector and that the results of recent efforts have already shown progress, with opportunities for students expanding from 31 per cent to 49 per cent.
Maldives Polytechnic CEO Zushan Kamaluddin said the inaugural cohort will complete five programmes: photography, information technology, architecture, electrical engineering, and small business management. She added that the new school will help close the gap between formal secondary education and higher education options.
Admission to Malé Vocational High School opened on 2 October this year. As a newly established Government school, its programmes will be conducted under the official A-level structure.
