The Maldives has officially welcomed its two millionth tourist for 2025, reaching the milestone earlier than last year.
The two millionth tourist, from the United Kingdom, was welcomed at Velana International Airport by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim and other officials.
This year’s milestone was reached earlier than last year, when the Maldives crossed the two million mark for the first time on 26 December 2024.
Speaking at the welcome ceremony, Minister Thoriq said the milestone is a testament to the hard work of everyone in the tourism industry. He noted that tourism arrivals have expanded significantly compared to last year, with growth estimated between 9.8 per cent and 10 per cent.
With December, traditionally one of the strongest months for arrivals, still ahead, the Government is now 300,000 visitors away from reaching its target of 2.3 million tourists for the year.
