A new state-of-the-art Islamic Centre has been officially opened in Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo.
The centre was inaugurated on Friday by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed at a special ceremony held ahead of Jummah prayers.
The mosque at the complex has been named Masjid Shaheed Umar Ahmed, in honour of Umar Ahmed from Dhidhdhoo, who was martyred in the 3 November 1988 attack while serving as an employee of the Malé Islamic Centre.
The newly opened Islamic Centre features a range of modern facilities, including a prayer hall, an Islamic library, a seminar room, an administrative office, and a multipurpose hall and outreach centre operated by the National Centre for the Holy Quran. An elevator has also been installed to ensure accessibility and ease of use for all visitors.
The centre was opened after the completion of all required installations and finishing works.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration has placed special focus on enhancing Islamic services and facilities across the country. The President has committed to establishing branches of the Centre for the Holy Quran on every island, subject to land availability and resources.
