President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government is targeting the completion of 15 mosques across the country before the upcoming Ramadan.
In a post on his official X account on Friday, the President said that 15 mosques funded by the Government and private individuals are scheduled to open before Ramadan. These include one mosque in Malé City and another in Hulhumalé Phase II. He added that, due to the shortage of permanent mosques in Hulhumalé Phase II, practical work will begin in December on additional permanent mosques.
The President also referred to the Islamic Centre in Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo, which was inaugurated on Friday. He said the Government had prioritised the completion of this project and congratulated the residents of Dhidhdhoo on the opening of the new facility.
President Dr Muizzu said these projects are intended to strengthen Islamic unity and support the spread of Islamic guidance and culture.
The Government has placed a special focus on expanding Islamic services and infrastructure. Alongside mosque and Islamic Centre development, the Administration is constructing Waqf buildings to support long-term Islamic initiatives. The teaching and learning of the Quran have also been encouraged through increased allowances for Huffaz and the introduction of a special Presidential Scholarship and enhanced prizes for winners of the National Quran Recitation Competition.
