President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed condolences to several Southeast Asian nations following deadly extreme weather events, describing the disasters as a stark reminder of the growing impacts of climate change.

In a message published on X, the President said the Maldives mourns the loss of lives and the widespread destruction reported in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, where severe weather has caused significant casualties and damage.

President Dr Muizzu also conveyed sorrow over the tragic fire in Hong Kong, which resulted in multiple fatalities. He extended condolences on behalf of the Maldivian people to President Xi Jinping, the Government of China and the families of the victims.

He added that the Maldives stands in solidarity with all countries affected by the recent tragedies, and commended the rescue and emergency teams responding on the ground.
