Reclamation works for Hulhumalé Phase III have been accelerated following the arrival of a second dredger, confirmed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on X.
The project, contracted to Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Pvt Ltd (CMC), will reclaim a total of 63 hectares of land. According to the latest updates, 24 hectares have already been reclaimed. The work is being carried out using Boskalis’ 22,000-cubic-metre dredger, and an additional vessel has now been mobilised to expedite completion.
The newly deployed dredger, TSHD Prins der Nederlanden, will operate alongside TSHD Oranji, which has been active at the Phase III site. The use of two dredgers is intended to significantly speed up the reclamation timeline.
President Dr Muizzu stated that the reclamation of the Hulhumalé phase III is targeted for completion by the end of December 2025, with remaining works expected to conclude in the following months. He also reiterated that the Government aims to reclaim 1,100 hectares of land in Rasmalé within the next five months as part of national land expansion and housing plans.
The Phase III reclamation works are regarded as a key component of the Government's ongoing efforts to expand housing capacity, improve urban planning, and support population growth in the Greater Malé Region.
