President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged the international community to move beyond symbolic gestures and take meaningful action to uphold the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.

In a post on X to commemorate International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the President said the violation of the fragile ceasefire, continued Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, the expansion of settlements, and severe restrictions on daily life have stripped Palestinians of stability and the possibility of an economically viable future. He noted that expressions of solidarity are no longer sufficient in the face of what he characterised as ongoing and escalating injustices.

President Dr Muizzu called on the global community to work collectively to ensure that the legitimate rights of Palestinians are realised, emphasising the importance of international cooperation in advancing a just and lasting resolution to the conflict.

He reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering commitment to stand with the Palestinian people and reaffirmed the country’s long-held position in support of recognising Palestine as an independent and sovereign state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
