The Chinese Embassy in the Maldives has hosted a reception in Malé to honour more than 100 Maldivian participants of the 2025 China–Maldives Human Resources Training Programme, held as part of ongoing cooperation between the two countries on 1 December 2025.
The event was attended by Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Javed Faizal, senior officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Members of Parliament, and several Maldivian professionals who took part in this year’s training programmes across various sectors.
The reception highlighted the growing partnership between the Maldives and China in capacity building, with the training programme offering Maldivian participants opportunities to study governance practices, development models, technology, and sector-specific expertise in China. This year’s participants represented fields ranging from public administration to economic development, technical skills, social sectors, and emerging industries.
During the ceremony, officials noted that China’s long-running foreign aid training initiatives have supported Maldivian human resource development for many years, strengthening institutional knowledge and enabling professionals to bring newly acquired skills into national development efforts.
Several participants and alumni of Chinese educational and training institutions shared their experiences at the event, reflecting on the academic exposure, technical learning, and intercultural exchange gained through their time in China. Their testimonies underscored the programme’s continued appeal and its role in deepening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
The reception also facilitated informal exchanges between participants, Government representatives, and embassy officials, creating a platform for further discussion on future areas of cooperation.
