President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that he will uphold his commitment to provide flats to all individuals whose housing allocations were taken away by the previous administration.
Speaking to residents of Henveiru on Sunday night, the President addressed concerns from those who appeared on the final beneficiary lists issued by an earlier government but later had their flats taken away.
President Dr Muizzu said a dedicated category has been included for these individuals in the first housing scheme introduced by the current Administration. He also added that every future scheme will also reserve a portion for those whose flats were taken away, ensuring they receive housing without any additional conditions.
“They just have to apply. There is no additional requirement. There will be no new requirements for them,” he said.
The President noted that a large number of people were affected by the previous administration’s decision, meaning not all can receive flats under a single scheme. However, he said each housing scheme will allocate a specific share for this group until all affected individuals receive their units.
President Dr Muizzu also stated that construction of 7,500 flats in the Malé area will begin soon, and that upcoming housing programmes will continue to create opportunities for those who lost their allocations.
