Central Line Private Limited has been awarded the contract to develop a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre in Fuvahmulah City and a Junior College in Shaviyani Funadhoo, expanding higher education opportunities across the Maldives.

The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary Aishath Hikma on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, while Central Line Managing Director Abdulla Asim signed on behalf of the company.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony, Minister of State for Higher Education Ahmed Shafeeu said the aim is to complete most of the construction work by the end of next year, with both facilities expected to become fully operational by 2027. He noted that the new centres will play an important role in strengthening youth skills development and expanding access to technical training.

The State Minister also added that Fuvahmulah City is on track to become an emerging education hub. He also noted that Funadhoo is taking an important step forward with the planned expansion of both the Maldives National University (MNU) and the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), further strengthening higher education delivery in the atolls.

The Administration has repeatedly emphasised its commitment to ensuring that students across the country have access to essential services, including higher education, without needing to relocate to Malé.

The new TVET Centre and Junior College will include a multipurpose workshop, classrooms, an ICT laboratory, dedicated administrative areas and staff facilities. The institutes will also feature seminar and meeting rooms, a study room, library and student service spaces.
