Former President Uz Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has emphasised the importance of recognising and valuing the contribution of Maldivian fishermen to the nation’s development.

In a message shared on X on the occasion of Fishermen’s Day, President Uz Maumoon extended his greetings to active fishermen, vessel owners, fishing families, and everyone involved in the fisheries sector. He conveyed his heartfelt well-wishes and described the day as one filled with “hope” for the Maldives.

Uz Maumoon expressed gratitude for the hard work and dedication of fishermen, noting that their efforts continue to play a vital role in sustaining the country’s economy and heritage.

The Maldives marks Fishermen’s Day annually on December 10, with islands across the nation hosting various activities and events to honour the fishing community.
