The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has opened applications for operators interested in providing helicopter services in the Maldives.

According to the Ministry, eligible operators may now submit proposals, with the deadline set for 2:00 p.m. on  25 January 2026. Applicants have been advised to follow the guidelines outlined in the Gazette carefully.

The Ministry stated that the purpose of introducing helicopter services is to expand commercial passenger transport, support emergency medical evacuations, and enhance search-and-rescue operations across remote islands and atolls. The initiative is also expected to contribute to tourism development and strengthen connectivity nationwide.

The successful bidder will be awarded a 10-year exclusive agreement, granting rights to operate commercial helicopter passenger services under the conditions specified in the contract. The Ministry added that the operator must also cooperate with Government requirements outlined within the agreement.
