Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed last year’s record total of 2.04 million visitors, marking a new milestone for the country’s tourism sector.
According to the latest tourist arrival statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, total arrivals reached 2.08 million as of last Wednesday, exceeding the previous record year for the first time in the nation’s history.
Tourist arrivals have increased by 10.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, with an average of 6,065 visitors arriving per day. China remains the largest source market, accounting for 15.3 per cent of total arrivals, continuing a trend observed last year.
The Government has set a target of welcoming 2.3 million tourists by the end of this year.
To support continued growth, the Government has intensified promotional efforts through Visit Maldives in both established and emerging markets. In addition, new tourism initiatives are being introduced, including the promotion of halal tourism and the issuance of the first permit for a sustainable township under the Special Economic Zone framework.
