Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has directed vessels to relocate from parts of the Malé Local Market area due to road development works under Segment Two of the Boduthakurufaanu Road development project.

MPL said the beachfront area in the market zone will be vacated in three phases to facilitate the construction of a quay wall. The first phase covers the area in front of the fish market, including the section currently used by fishing vessels.

Vessels operating in this area have been instructed to relocate by the 19th of this month, as quay wall works along road are scheduled to commence on the 20th.

MPL stated vessels displaced during this phase will be temporarily docked in the area in front of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). The company added that signage will be installed to guide vehicle parking arrangements during the construction period.

The Government aims to complete development works across the entire area before the start of Ramadan. The second and third phases of the project will involve areas currently used for docking cargo vessels serving the atolls.

Segment Two of the Boduthakurufaanu Road development project covers a total stretch of 250 metres, extending from the Local Market area to North Harbour. Practical works on the road have already commenced on site, with the project being implemented by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
