The total amount of money owed to the State has exceeded MVR 1.6 billion in cases concluded by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) since its establishment, ACC President Uz Adam Shamil has said.

He made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held to mark International Anti-Corruption Day.

From 2009 to 2025, investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Commission led to directives issued to relevant institutions to recover more than MVR 1.61 billion in misappropriated or lost public funds, Uz Shamil said. He noted that this equates to an average recovery directive of approximately MVR 94.6 million per year, or MVR 7.88 million per month, over the 17-year period.

The ACC President noted that for every MVR 1 allocated to the Commission from the Government budget during this period, the ACC has directed the recovery of at least MVR 2.85 to the State.

The Anti-Corruption Commission Act was passed on 16 October 2008, following which the Interim Anti-Corruption Commission was established as an independent institution. Since 2009, the total budget allocated to the ACC from the Government budget up to 2025 stands at MVR 564.1 million.

Uz Shamil said this allocation averages MVR 33.18 million per year, or MVR 2.77 million per month, over the 17-year period, highlighting the scale of recoveries directed relative to operational costs.
