Chinese NPC Vice Chairman pays courtesy call on President Dr Muizzu

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress of China, Wang Dongming, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office on Monday morning.

The meeting focused on strengthening Maldives–China relations and advancing cooperation across a wide range of priority sectors. Discussions explored opportunities to expand collaboration in housing and infrastructure development, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology, and trade, while also reinforcing existing bilateral partnerships.

President Dr Muizzu expressed his appreciation to Chinese President Xi Jinping for China’s continued support and assistance, noting that such cooperation has played a significant role in supporting the Maldives’ economic and social development. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to deepening ties with China, built on mutual trust, respect, and a long-standing friendship between the two nations. The President also highlighted China’s contributions to key national development initiatives, including major infrastructure projects.

Both sides reviewed the progress of ongoing bilateral projects and acknowledged the Memoranda of Understanding and agreements signed during President Dr Muizzu’s official visits to China. They expressed satisfaction with the steady implementation of these initiatives and the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation.

Vice Chairman Wang Dongming highlighted the strong and friendly relations between the Maldives and China, noting that these ties have been further strengthened through the President’s recent engagements in China. He stated that the delegation’s visit aimed to reinforce the partnership for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples. Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to the comprehensive strategic partnership and expressed continued support for the Maldives’ development priorities.

The meeting concluded with both sides reiterating their shared commitment to further enhancing Maldives–China relations and delivering practical outcomes that support development in both countries.

Vice Chairman Wang was accompanied by a senior delegation from the National People’s Congress of China.
