The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced the requirements for the concept design of the Darul-Noor Waqf building, inviting eligible parties to submit proposals.

In a public advertisement, the Ministry called for concept designs, architectural drawings, bills of quantities (BOQ), and technical specifications for the Darul-Noor Waqf Building. The tender is open to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) registered under the Business Registration Act, with the deadline for submissions set for the 17th of this month.

The Darul-Noor project forms part of the Government’s plan to develop Waqf buildings across the Greater Malé Region and other parts of the country to ensure sustainable funding for Islamic initiatives.

Practical works have already commenced on two Waqf projects under this initiative. Construction activities for the Darul Arqam Waqf building began on 20 November 2025, followed by the Darul Salaam Waqf building on 26 November 2025. In addition, the Ministry has announced plans to develop a dedicated Waqf building for the Holy Quran in Malé City, with construction expected to commence this year.

Waqf buildings planned for Hulhumalé and Malé will be 12-storey structures equipped with modern facilities. Twenty per cent of the revenue generated from these buildings will be allocated to the Zakat House, while the remaining 80 per cent will be channelled to the Islamic Waqf Fund.

The Government has also announced plans to develop similar Waqf buildings in Kulhudhuffushi City, Fuvahmulah City, Addu City, and Thinadhoo City, as part of ongoing efforts to expand the Waqf system nationwide and strengthen long-term funding for Islamic and community-based programmes.
