The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced the launch of a nationwide Mass Legalisation and Job-Matching Programme under Operation Kurangi, aimed at addressing the issue of expatriates working or residing in the Maldives without valid permits or proper identification.
The Ministry stated that the programme will facilitate the legalisation of expatriates who currently lack an employer, whose permits have expired, or who are residing without appropriate documentation. As part of the initiative, biometric information collected during Operation Kurangi will be used to support eligible expatriates in accessing employment opportunities.
Expatriates without an employer and who have completed their biometric registration are required to fill in and submit the application form provided with the Ministry’s announcement.
The Ministry further stated that employers seeking to hire expatriate workers will be able to do so through a newly established registry, with recruitment arrangements facilitated by the Government.
