Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar has stated that 75 per cent of the Roadha Hadhiyaa canned tuna have already been prepared, as the Government moves ahead with arrangements for nationwide delivery ahead of the holy month.

Speaking to State media, Minister Adam Shareef said responsibility for organising Roadha Hadhiyaa distribution last year was transferred to the Ministry at a time when arrangements were not fully in place. He noted that despite initial challenges, the Ministry was able to resort them in two days and complete the work by addressing logistical shortcomings.

The Minister said experience from last year, particularly the challenge of distributing canned fish across all islands amid limited preparation and supply constraints, has informed this year’s planning. He confirmed that around 75 per cent of the required canned tuna, prepared by Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), is already ready, with work continuing on the remaining portion.

He added that the Government is working closely with relevant authorities and companies, and that further details on the distribution process will be made public by the 15th of this month.

During Ramadan last year, the Government distributed a total of 111,231 cases of canned tuna, including 50,519 cases to households in Malé City and 60,712 cases to households in the atolls.

In addition to the distribution of canned fish, the Government has also announced relief measures for Ramadan, including electricity bill discounts, under which households will get an electricity bill no more than MVR 400 during the holy month.
