The Maldives has reiterated its support for the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, stating that it continues to recognise and back the country’s internationally recognised legitimate government.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Maldives is closely monitoring ongoing developments in the Republic of Yemen. The Government welcomed the call made by Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council to hold comprehensive talks aimed at reaching a political solution through dialogue.

The Government also expressed its support for the initiative by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host a conference in Riyadh, describing it as a constructive step towards advancing peace, security and stability in Yemen through diplomatic means.

The statement reaffirmed the Maldives’ position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy as the path towards a lasting and peaceful resolution to the situation in Yemen.
