The State collected over MVR 107 million in Zakat al-Mal in 2025, reflecting an increase from the previous year, according to figures released by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
MIRA reported that a total of MVR 107.2 million was received in Zakat al-Mal during the year, compared to MVR 102.2 million collected in 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.8 per cent.
The highest Zakat collection was recorded in March 2025, amounting to MVR 23 million. This was followed by July, with MVR 12 million collected, and April, during which collections reached MVR 11 million.
According to the Zakat House of Maldives, the most recent revision to the Zakat Nisab threshold came into effect on December 21, 2025. Under the revised threshold, the minimum amount of wealth subject to Zakat al-Mal in the Maldives is MVR 19,527.90, up from the previous threshold of MVR 11,191.95.
The Nisab value is calculated based on international gold and silver prices, which are published locally by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). As these prices fluctuate in global markets, the Nisab threshold is subject to change.
At present, the local market price of silver stands at MVR 32.82 per gram, while gold is priced at MVR 2,149.39 per gram. Zakat al-Nisab refers to the minimum level of accumulated wealth at which Zakat becomes obligatory.
Zakat payments are accepted through MIRA, with options available for online payment. Taxpayers can also calculate and verify their Zakat obligations via the authority’s official website.
