Velana International Airport (VIA) recorded 249,214 air traffic movements last year and served more than 8 million passengers, according to statistics released by the airport.
The airport reported an 8 per cent year-on-year increase in air traffic movements, while passenger numbers rose by 7 per cent compared to the previous year.
Breaking down the air traffic movements, VIA recorded 34,868 international flight movements in 2025. Domestic air traffic accounted for 28,348 movements, while seaplane operations recorded 185,998 movements. Air traffic movements include both arriving and departing flights.
Passenger statistics released by the airport show that the international terminal served 5.38 million passengers last year. The domestic terminal handled 1.17 million passengers, while the seaplane terminal served 1.73 million passengers. In total, VIA handled 8.28 million passengers during the year.
The highest number of passengers travelling by aircraft in a single day was recorded on 28 December 2025, when 27,381 passengers were served. The busiest day for seaplane operations was 16 February 2025, with 7,439 passengers using seaplane services.
The year 2025 marked a significant milestone for VIA with the commencement of operations at its new terminal in July. By the end of the year, all airlines had transitioned to the new terminal. Passenger and aircraft movements are expected to increase further this year as VIA benefits from year-round operations at the expanded terminal.
