Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has extended his best wishes to the Maldives national men’s futsal team ahead of the final of the SAFF Futsal Championship 2026, as the team prepares for its decisive match in Thailand.
Speaking in an interview with State media, the Vice President praised the players for their performances throughout the tournament, noting that the team has met expectations and demonstrated strong skill and commitment. He also acknowledged the efforts of the coaching staff in preparing the squad for the competition.
He said that sport has consistently brought Maldivians together, adding that the nation is closely following the team’s progress and standing in solidarity with the players as they approach the final.
The Vice President also commended the Maldives women’s national futsal team, which recently made history by competing in their first-ever international futsal matches at the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship, also held in Thailand. He expressed appreciation for their efforts and voiced hope for continued opportunities and development for women’s futsal in the country.
Team Maldives remains unbeaten in the men’s tournament, having won all four of their matches so far. In their most recent fixture, Maldives secured a 2–1 victory over Nepal, extending their perfect run and moving closer to clinching the championship.
With the final scheduled against Bhutan, a win would see Maldives claim the SAFF Futsal Championship 2026 title, marking a significant achievement for the national team.
