The Maldives Police Service has advised motorists to exercise caution during night-time repair works on the Malé–Hulhumalé highway, as maintenance activities get underway to improve road safety along the busy route.

In a statement shared, police said renewal of traffic lane markings on the highway will begin tonight and continue nightly from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. The works are being carried out in efforts to make roads in the Greater Malé Region safer and more secure for road users.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which is responsible for maintaining and renovating the highway, will carry out the repair works. Police confirmed that the road will not be closed during the maintenance period, although cones will be placed to guide traffic through affected sections.

Police urged drivers and other road users to remain alert, reduce speed where necessary and follow traffic guidance while the works are ongoing, to ensure the safety of both motorists and workers at the site.

The repair works come amid concerns over faded road markings, which have reduced visibility for drivers, particularly at night. In addition, damage has been reported to guardrails along both sides of the highway, as well as fencing near the airport perimeter.
