President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged students across the nation to pursue paths that benefit themselves, their families, and society throughout their educational journey.
The President made these remarks while speaking at the inauguration of Shaheed Ali School in Hulhumalé Phase II, an event that marked the commencement of the new academic year.
Addressing the students, President Dr Muizzu emphasised the importance of upholding religious obligations in daily life. He urged students to perform their five daily prayers on time and encouraged parents to take the lead in ensuring their children begin the day with the Fajr prayer.
Describing schools as the foundation of a child’s development, the President stressed the necessity of keeping this foundation strong. He noted that while teachers and parents play a vital role in this process, the Government remains committed to supporting them through improved infrastructure, strengthened systems, and the promotion of inclusive education – which he highlighted as a key policy priority.
Highlighting the wider purpose of learning, he stated that true national development requires not only physical infrastructure but also the cultivation of minds and values.
Addressing the high population density in Hulhumalé Phase II, the President noted that Shaheed Ali School will play a critical role in meeting the area's educational needs. He assured that more schools would be developed, reiterating his policy to ensure equal standards of education between Malé and the atolls.
On regional disparities, the President noted that approximately 1,500 students relocated to Malé this year, largely due to limited educational facilities in other parts of the country. He said the Government is working towards balanced and holistic development nationwide to address these inequalities.
The President also noted that Shaheed Ali School is named in honour of Sultan Ali VI, also known as Ali Rasgefaanu, and encouraged students to draw inspiration from his sacrifice by fostering a deep love for the country and contributing to its future.
