The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has begun dispatching canned tuna cases to the atolls under this year’s Roadha Hadhiyaa Programme, ahead of the upcoming month of Ramadan.

Shipments to the atolls are being carried out through the State Trading Organization (STO). Preparations are underway to ensure smooth storage and distribution, with arrangements made to stock the canned tuna in designated locations across the atolls.

Distribution of canned tuna cases in the Greater Malé Region commenced on 24 January. The process is being carried out with the support of the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, several State-owned enterprises, as well as the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service.

The ministry said distribution in the islands will begin shortly and will be conducted under the supervision of island and city councils. Based on the household registry for this year’s programme, there are 56,918 households in island and city areas outside Malé, while the Greater Malé Region has 61,755 domestic meters.

In total, 118,673 cases of canned tuna are set to be distributed nationwide as part of the Roadha Hadhiyaa Programme this year.

Under the programme in 2024, households received 10 kilograms each of basmati rice and flour. In 2025, the Government distributed a total of 111,231 cases of canned tuna.
