Authorities have arrested three individuals on drug smuggling charges in a significant operation involving Maldives Customs and police counter-narcotics intelligence. The accused, identified as Ahmed Naseer (45), Ali Aiham (18), and Rohman (29), a Bangladeshi national, were apprehended after being linked to a large-scale drug smuggling case.
Ahmed Naseer was arrested at Velana International Airport on the night of October 31, following a tip-off from customs officials. Following his arrest, police conducted a controlled delivery operation in Malé, where Ali Aiham and Rohman were subsequently apprehended. The arrests yielded approximately 5.936 kg of illegal substances, allegedly intended for distribution within the Maldives.
All three suspects were presented before a local court, where Ahmed Naseer was remanded in custody for five days, while Ali Aiham and Rohman were ordered to remain in judicial custody for seven days. Police have confirmed that further investigations into the case are underway.
