Minister of Social and Family Development Aishath Shiham has announced that the Administration has so far created job opportunities for 367 persons with disabilities, underscoring the Government’s commitment to building an inclusive society.
The minister made the remarks at the launch of the National Action Plan on Disability Inclusion. She described the roadmap as a strong foundation to expand participation of persons with disabilities across all levels of society.
Highlighting the importance of disability rights, the minister said the issue is closely tied to both human rights and national development, and reaffirmed that empowering persons with disabilities remains a high priority for the government. She noted that the Administration has worked closely with affected communities to promote rights, provide essential services, and create pathways for economic empowerment.
The minister also stressed ongoing efforts to identify disabilities early, beginning from conception, and to provide necessary support through childhood, education, and into the workplace. She described these initiatives as a clear reflection of the government’s policy to safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities.
Over the past two years, the ministry has collaborated with experienced professionals to equip individuals with essential workforce skills. The Empowerment Hub has already begun conducting training programs and skill-building activities to ensure persons with disabilities have access to employment opportunities.
