President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed on an official visit to Germany from 9 to 13 February 2026, following an invitation extended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During the visit, President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to hold high-level talks with President Steinmeier and other senior members of the German government. Discussions are expected to cover a range of bilateral and international issues, with a focus on strengthening cooperation between the Maldives and Germany.
As part of the programme, President Dr Muizzu will visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he is set to deliver a keynote address highlighting the Maldives’ experience in climate change adaptation. He is also scheduled to speak at the German Council on Foreign Relations, where he will present the Maldives’ perspective on the role of oceans in foreign policy.
A bilateral business forum is also planned during the visit, bringing together stakeholders from both countries to explore potential trade and investment opportunities in the Maldives.
The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and representatives from the business sector.
President Dr Muizzu’s visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, which were formally established on 5 July 1966. Germany remains an important trade and investment partner for the Maldives, with cooperation spanning development, commerce and climate-related initiatives.
