The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has handed over keys for 3,647 flats to beneficiaries under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme, out of the 4,000 flats developed by the corporation.
Speaking to State media, FDC Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel said that while 3,647 recipients have already received their keys, agreements have been signed with 3,850 beneficiaries to date.
He noted that the Government aims to complete the signing of agreements with the remaining recipients and hand over the outstanding flats before the start of Ramadan. Arrangements are also being finalised to allow residents to move into the apartments ahead of the holy month.
Hamdhan explained that delays in handing over some flats are due to various issues faced by certain beneficiaries. He said 90 individuals who had been scheduled to receive their keys have yet to complete the handover process. In addition, documentation for 112 flats still requires verification. Once the necessary lists are received, the corporation will expedite the remaining procedures.
FDC stated that extensive work had to be completed before residents could move into the flats. When the current Government assumed office, several construction works remained unfinished, and essential services required for habitation in the area had not been fully established.
A significant number of beneficiaries have now relocated to their new homes. In December last year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced reductions to the down payment and monthly rent amounts for the flats, easing the financial burden on recipients.
