Maldives Zakat House has conducted a training session on the Fitr Portal at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs as part of preparations for the upcoming month of Ramadan, aimed at strengthening coordination and improving the administration of Fitr Zakat nationwide.
The training session, held on 15 February 2026, was attended by Maldives Zakat House staff, while officials from island, atoll and city councils across the country participated online.
The Fitr Portal, introduced on 2 February 2026, is part of ongoing efforts to digitise Zakat services and improve transparency and efficiency in the collection of cash-based Fitr Zakat. The system is designed to support Zakat payers who prefer to make payments in cash rather than through online platforms.
According to Zakat House, the portal is intended for operational use by staff and local councils and is not accessible to the general public. When individuals pay Fitr Zakat in cash at council offices or the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, authorised staff will record the payment in the portal, with payers receiving an SMS confirmation of the amount paid. Any additional contributions made as sadaqah will also be reflected in the notification.
The system introduces a standardised national framework for recording cash collections, allowing payments to be monitored in real time and consolidated with figures from digital payment platforms. The organisation said this will strengthen financial oversight and support more accurate reporting.
According to Zakat House, access to consolidated, real-time data is expected to improve planning and support the timely and equitable distribution of Fitr Zakat to eligible recipients across the country before the end of Ramadan, in line with Islamic principles.
Maldives Zakat House said the introduction of the Fitr Portal reflects ongoing efforts to modernise Zakat administration through the use of technology, while maintaining accessibility for those who continue to rely on in-person cash payments.
