Zakat al-Fitr collection begins for Ramadan

The Maldives Zakat House has announced that collection of Zakat al-Fitr for this year’s Ramadan has officially commenced.

The authority stated that Zakat al-Fitr can be paid online from the first day of Ramadan until 6:00 am on the 27th day of Ramadan. Payments are being accepted through seven digital platforms this year.

The available payment methods are:

  • Dhiraagu App and Dhiraagu Pay (website)
  • Ooredoo m-Faisaa application
  • Maldives Islamic Bank application
  • Bank of Maldives Mobile Banking application
  • FahiPay application
  • Avas App
  • Bandeyri Pay

Zakat House further stated that payments through Bandeyri Pay and FahiPay will remain open until the final day of Ramadan.

For elderly individuals and those unable to make online payments, arrangements have been made to accept Fitr Zakat at the Islamic Centre in Malé City. During the last ten days of Ramadan, dedicated counters will operate for collection, with timings publicly announced by Zakat House.

The counter schedule is as follows:

  • February 22 to March 9: Every day except official public holidays, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • March 10 to March 19: Every day except Fridays and Saturdays, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

Zakat House also stated that the collection of Fitr Zakat in cash across the islands will be facilitated by respective Island and City Councils.

The payable amounts for Zakat al-Fitr, based on selected food items, are:

  • Ordinary rice: MVR 12
  • Thai white rice: MVR 53
  • Red rice: MVR 96
  • Basmati rice (standard): MVR 77
  • Basmati rice (premium): MVR 109
  • Basmati rice (highest grade): MVR 136
  • Ordinary flour: MVR 10
  • Wheat flour: MVR 75
