The Maldives Correctional Service has announced that Taraweeh prayers will be officially held in prison mosques for the first time.

The service stated that arrangements have been completed to conduct Taraweeh prayers in correctional facilities, with qualified Huffaz appointed to lead the prayers.

In addition to Taraweeh prayers, special religious awareness sessions will be conducted for inmates and detainees. These sessions aim to provide Islamic knowledge and promote spiritual and psychological well-being.

The Correctional Service stated that the initiative is intended to strengthen religious awareness among inmates and provide them with greater opportunities for worship. It added that Taraweeh prayers will now be conducted in prison mosques under an official framework.

Other rehabilitation efforts are ongoing to support inmates in becoming constructive members of society. Alongside religious programmes, various skill development initiatives are being carried out in collaboration with relevant institutions.
