The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments has stated that 75 per cent of construction work on a mosque in Hulhumalé Phase II has been completed.

In an update shared on social media, the ministry said the mosque, being developed in near Aman Udhares flats, will accommodate around 1,800 worshippers once completed.

The project forms part of efforts to meet increasing demand for religious facilities in Hulhumalé Phase II, where population growth has accelerated with ongoing housing developments. Currently, three permanent mosques and two temporary prayer facilities are in operation in the area.

The Government has also continued mosque development and maintenance nationwide, spending MVR 19.4 million on renovations last year, with a further MVR 15 million allocated for this year.

In addition, the ministry said construction of 10 more Islamic centres nationwide will begin this year, while efforts are ongoing to replace older mosques in the Malé region.
