The first outdoor gym developed in Hulhumalé Phase II has been opened, expanding access to public fitness facilities for residents in the area, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said.

The facility was inaugurated on Wednesday by HDC Managing Director Brigadier General (Retd) Ali Zuhair at a ceremony held in Hulhumalé Phase II. The outdoor gym is located on land adjacent to the turf ground near the Hiyaa flats.

According to HDC, the gym has been fitted with 22 types of outdoor fitness equipment and is intended to promote physical activity and healthier lifestyles among residents of Hulhumalé Phase II.

HDC said the project is part of efforts to improve community infrastructure as the population of Hulhumalé Phase II continues to grow. Several public amenities are planned under the new master plan to enhance the living environment in the area.

The Government has previously announced plans under the National Fitness Plan to establish outdoor gyms in inhabited islands across the Maldives. HDC said it will continue to implement similar community projects in support of the Government’s policy to expand access to public fitness facilities nationwide.
