NDMA provides temporary shelter to five after Hulhumalé apartment fire

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter to five people following a fire at an apartment building in Hulhumalé Phase 1 on 20 February.
NDMA said the fire broke out at around 11:00 p.m. in an apartment on the seventh floor of One Avenue. The kitchen of the apartment sustained extensive damage.
Temporary accommodation has been arranged for five people affected by the incident, including an elderly man and a child. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident. NDMA said assessments are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and to identify any further assistance required for those affected.
The incident is the second reported fire in Hulhumalé Phase 1 this month. The fire occurred at lot number 11154 on Chambeylee Magu 5, Hulhumalé Phase I originated in a warehouse located beneath a six-storey residential building, causing damage to property and the building’s electrical panel, which led to temporary shelter being provided to 25 people.
