President appoints Uz Hassan Shafeeu as member of JSC

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Hassan Shafeeu as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The oath of office and declaration of membership were administered at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on 23 February. Supreme Court Justice Uz Mohamed Saleem administered the oath, after which the President formally presented the letter of appointment.

The appointment was made in accordance with Article 158(c) of the Constitution and Section 3(3) of the Judicial Service Commission Act.

Judge Uz Hassan Shafeeu holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Maldives College of Higher Education and a Master of Comparative Law from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. He began his judicial career at the Family Court in 2013 and later served at the Civil Court before being appointed to the High Court in October 2020. He has also served at the Court of Appeal for a period of one year. With more than 14 years of experience in the legal field, Judge Uz Shafeeu has been involved in legislative drafting and has worked as a law lecturer.

The Judicial Service Commission is mandated to oversee the administration of the judiciary and comprises representatives from the legislature, judiciary, executive branch, the legal profession and the public.
