A modern body scanner has been installed and brought into operation at Maafushi Prison as part of efforts to prevent the smuggling of contraband and curb scam calls originating from within the facility.

The service of the newly installed body scanning machine was officially inaugurated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan.

The Maldives Correctional Service stated that the scanner is a state-of-the-art model introduced to strengthen security within the prison system. It is the first body scanner of its kind to be installed at Maafushi Prison and was procured through the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.

Authorities noted that the scanner will enhance screening procedures by detecting prohibited items concealed on individuals entering the facility, thereby reducing the risk of contraband being smuggled inside.

Minister Ali Ihusaan stated that the introduction of the scanner is also expected to significantly reduce scam calls made from within the prison.
